Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy
What is Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy?
Psychedelic therapy is an emergent healing modality that pairs substances, guided support, and the therapeutic environment to promote healing and personal insight.
We believe in you and your innate ability to heal. Often, that ability can feel diminished due to past experiences, traumas, and learned patterns. Our aim is to serve as a support alongside you, with the psychedelic medicine working as a catalyst to open up access to healing that may have been previously less accessible. Currently, we are offering Ketamine Assisted psychotherapy.
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
What is KAP?
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a safe, efficient, and groundbreaking treatment modality for the symptoms of treatment resistant depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, and substance abuse. Ketamine creates a temporary state of consciousness that is often described as gentle, expansive, and present-moment centered. This allows clients a unique opportunity to process difficult emotions without the normal fear and shame response, and to explore deeply rooted patterns and beliefs with a new perspective.
Ketamine has been been scientifically proven to create a physical change in your brain that increases neuroplasticity, which is your brain's ability to create new neural networks and therefore, can increase your ability to create new, positive behaviors and beliefs. Ketamine has also been shown to temporarily lower the Default Mode Network (DMN), the part of our brain that is responsible for habitual rumination, worry, and thought. Clients get the chance to take a break from their default mode of thinking and go to the “stuck” places in their psyche that can otherwise feel too overwhelming to access because of their existing defenses. Clients report they are more able to feel their emotions, body, and process what has felt unresolved.
How long are the sessions and what is the cost?
The typical duration of a KAP session is 2 hours and they are billed at $150 an hour. This fee does not cover the cost of the ketamine prescription and consultation with one of our prescribers. Our prescribers take most insurances and offer a self-pay option. The ketamine itself costs about $50. Origin Wellness Collective only works with legal medicines (Ketamine or Cannabis) under the direction and guidance of medical professionals.
What does this process look like?
Treatment plans typically begin with three individual psychotherapy sessions that will include a formal intake, intention setting and preparation work. Following these sessions, you will meet with our medical provider for a mandatory screening to evaluate your suitability for ketamine-assisted treatment. Under the direction and guidance of our medical provider, you will be prescribed a set number of lozenges, known as “troches,” that dissolve in your mouth and will be taken during sessions. Following your medical evaluation, you and your therapist can begin to engage in a series of guided ketamine sessions.
